The Singapore Productivity Association is now on its 33rd year. Over the years, the Associations key focus has remained unchanged - the mobilization and involvement of industry and individuals in productivity enhancement activities, in alignment with the Productivity Movement.

In recent years, this focus was manifested in helping companies implement excellence frameworks and related mechanisms & tools. To propagate the acquisition of knowledge and skills to deploy these frameworks, short courses were organized, talks and seminars were conducted and company visits were arranged.

Going forward, the Association will continue to focus on providing access to skills training that help impove systems and processes; tools and techniques; and workforce competencies. Members can also learn from the best companies by participating in best practice study missions, both locally and overseas. In addition, there are opportunities to network with other companies and individuals with similar interests in quality and productivity matters.

In particular, we have noted a growing interest amongst our members, in learning from the best practices of other companies. In response, the Association has adopted a three-pronged approach - dissemination of information and knowledge through courses, conferences and seminars; initiated local and overseas study trips (to Australia and more recently, to Japan); and piloting the formation of benchmarking communities. This approach will guide activities in the coming year, and will give added impetus to attracting new members and retaining existing ones.

The Association also contributes to the international productivity community.
We have provided training to participants from developing countries through working with other productivity institutes such as the Asia Productivity Organization and the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship. We have also dispatched experts overseas on projects and training assignments. These international exchanges provide opportunities for exposure for our members as well as continuous learning.

Let me take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to all our members for your continued support and I look forward to working with you to further the goals of the Productivity Movement.
